The Union Cabinet today took a number of decisions, including amending the service rules to enable the government to grant extension to the Cabinet Secretary, promulgation of an Ordinance to cover import of livestock products and approval of a Rs 116.22-crore financial package to reorganise the loss-making Central Inland Water Transport Corporation Ltd (CIWTC) at Kolkata.
The ex-post facto approval to agreements with Columbia on the visa regime between the two countries, attempts to revive the sick units of the National Jute Manufacturers Corporation (NJMC) and repeal of St John Ambulance Association (India) Transfer of Funds Act, 1956 since the Act had become redundant, are other proposals cleared by the Cabinet.
Announcing the decision to amend the appropriate rules which will give the government the power to grant extension of services to a government servant holding the office of Cabinet Secretary, law minister Arun Jaitley said,
