After a lull of few days, the city today witnessed rallies by outfits opposing and supporting reservations in elite educational institutions.An anti-quota rally, organised by medical and engineering students and employees working in the private sector, was held from Chiklalabagh to Bannappa Park where speakers denounced the centre's proposed move to provide quota for OBCs, and condemned the alleged police excesses in Delhi and Mumbai against the agitating students.Members of the Yuva Jagruthi Vedike, which is spearheading an agitation supporting reservations for OBCs, also held a demonstration at Basaveshwara Circle near Vidhana Soudha, the state secretariat.The Vedike activists demanded that the government provide reservations in elite institutions.Leaders of the anti-quota stir, Mohanchandra and Sunil, told reporters that a 30-member committee has been formed to chalk out future plans after discussion with their counterparts across the country.A five-member delegation of students presented a memorandum to Governor T N Chaturvedi opposing quotas.
