The entry of veteran CPI(M) leader VS Achuthanandan into the electoral fray in Kerala has added sting to the election campaign of the United Democratic Front (UDF), say Congress leaders. |
Known as a "hardliner" within the party, the CPI(M) Politburo member is being projected by the ruling combine as one who could stall development with his "anti-reform" stance. |
The UDF is giving people two choices: Go with the reform-friendly UDF and prosper or opt for the LDF and put an end to development. |
Although the UDF has made development its central plank, its campaign has acquired a new dimension with the arrival of Achuthanandan. |
"Achuthanandan is anti-development and anti-industry, which will not attract people. Our entire campaign is, therefore, centred on development," said senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily, in charge of the party's campaign in Kerala. |
"As against the negative attitude of the LDF, the UDF government has put the state on the country's IT map. Narayan Murthy, who was here two-three months ago, said the state had a good potential as an industrial destination," Moily told Business Standard here. |
The UDF campaign managers are trying to send a message across that the government has succeeded in bringing 84 software firms to the state and how opening of numerous engineering and medical colleges has created more employment opportunities for the young |
