Union minister of labour and employment Mallikarjun Kharge has asked the state government to implement the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana scheme in Andhra Pradesh. The scheme has provisions to provide an assistance of Rs 30,000 towards medical facilities for the BPL (below poverty line) families besides giving two smart cards to each family.

Under the scheme, 75 per cent of the budget would be provided by the Centre and the rest would come from the respective state governments. This scheme has been implemented across 22 states. Among the southern states, Tamil Nadu and Kerala have implemented the scheme while Karnataka and AP are yet to implement, he added.

“The state is hesitant to implement the scheme as it is already running the Arogyasri programme,” he told mediapersons today after the inauguration of the Employee State Insurance Corporation’s regional office here.
