Ap Cong Meet Fails To Discuss Rao'S Resignation

But curiously, the resignation of P V Narasimha Rao from the AICC presidentship did not figure in the discussions.

The two-hour meet was devoted largely to the constitution of committees

for the coming bypolls in the state to maintain vigil against rigging by the ruling Telugu Desam.

It also reviewed the membership drive due to close on September 30 and advised district congress committees to step up enrolment.

Pradesh Congress Chief K Roshiah and Congress Legislature Party leader P Janardhan Reddy, briefing the press, said though no discussion on P V resignation had taken place, the meeting appreciated the leader's contribution to the development of the country and to the organisation in the past five and a half years.

Members of Parliament from the State and Legislators belonging to the Congress, executive members of the Pradesh Congress Committee and presidents of the district Congress committees participated in the discussions.

Obviously, Congress leaders refrained from taking a definite stand on the resignation in a bid to maintain a facade of unity among partymen in Rao's home State, badly divided into pro and anti Rao camps.

All the same, the sudden resignation, after the stiff stand taken by Rao loyalists in Delhi, came as a rude shock.
