The state government today sought 500 Mw power from the unallocated pool in view of stoppage of generation at NTPC’s Talcher unit, which also supplies power to Andhra Pradesh.
Though rains in the last couple of days across the state have brought down the demand, any failure to ramp up power availability in the coming days to offset the stoppage of 400 Mw power from Orissa would create problems, according to officials.
About three units of NTPC’s 3,000-Mw Kaniha plant in Orissa have already been shut down following the directives of the Orissa Pollution Control Board resulting in disruption of supply to AP apart from other southern states.
As the uncertainty continues to loom large over the resumption of supply from this supercritical power plant, the state authorities today wrote a letter to the Union energy ministry to provide 500 Mw from the central grid, the officials said.
