AP set to change curriculum of intermediate onwards with stress on IT

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to change the curriculum "� from intermediate onwards beginning the next academic year onwards "� to meet the demands of the IT industry.
 
This was announced by J C Mohanty, principal secretary (IT), on Friday at the international conference on 'Enabling Technologies for Smart Appliances' organised by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Hyderabad section.
 
Speaking at the valedictory session of the conference, he said a higher committee had already been formed to look into the requirements of the industry and to change the curriculum suitably, so students could be better prepared by the time they complete their degree to meet the demands of the industry.
 
He exhorted the IT industry to get into manufacturing also and not just limit itself to outsourcing and service sectors and said smart appliances should be made useful for the benefit of the rural people.
 
Mohanty said the government would extend its complete support to the industry and declared that the government was prepared to work with IEEE to create an environment where technocrats and academicians could work together.
 
He also said that high speed connectivity would be enabled in over 30 per cent of all the villages in the state by March 2006 and also announced that APIIC is setting up a 5,000-acre hardware park near Shamshabad and that a nanotechnology park was also being planned.
 
Earlier, Mohanty presented the "best paper" of the conference awards to K Anand, Timothy O' Sullivan and the pair of Manoj Haridas and Aditya Nagaraj.
 
Over 25 technical papers were presented at the two-day conference attended by over 400 delegates from across the world.
