Ap Showcases Genome Valley At Bio-2003

The government of Andhra Pradesh has showcased the Genome Valley project at the International Biotech Exhibition, Bio-2003, held in Washington from June 23 to 25.

The annual conference of the global biotech industry, which was inaugurated by the US President on June 23, has 16,000 participants from all over the world.

The Genome Valley stall at the exhibition highlights the world-class infrastructure being created in the Biotech Park and ICICI Knowledge Park, which are part of the Genome Valley project.

The delegation from state attending the Biotech Exhibition headed by the minister concerned, B Gopalakrishna Reddy, include B P Acharya, the industries secretary in-charge of biotechnology and D Balasubramanian, the chairman state biotech advisory committee.

In connection with the exhibition, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the state government and the Province of Saskatchewan of Canada for collaboration in the field of Agri-Biotechnology, with focus on crop, animal and environmental Biotechnology.

Saskatchewan, which is the leading State of Canada in the field of agri-biotechnology will collaborate in the areas of technology transfer, research collaboration, regulatory approvals and educational exchanges to develop the agri-biotechnology sector in the state.

The MoU was signed on June 22 at Washington by BPAcharya and Larry Spannier, the deputy minister for Industries of Saskatchewan Province.

The collaboration assumes importance in the context of the Agri-Business Incubator and the Agri Biotech Park being developed in the ICRISAT campus on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

During the meeting, it was decided to send a delegation from Canada in September to attend Biotech India International Conference being organised in Hyderabad to explore further possibilities.
