APITCO Limited, a public sector technical consultancy organisation, opened a Centre for Promotion of International Partnerships among SMEs (SME-CIP) here on Thursday.

The objective of SME-CIP is to leverage APITCO's ongoing effort to promote international cooperation between Indian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and their partners overseas.

According to APITCO managing director S Srinivasa Rao, SME-CIP will provide services in awareness building and networking, ancillary services, training and capacity building, feasibility reports, demonstration projects and information sharing. The centre will also promote transnational collaborations among SMEs. So far, 182 SMEs have joined with APITCO in exploring overseas partners.

As part of APITCO's international cooperation programme, a business delegation from Saudi Arabia came on a three-day visit to Hyderabad to explore opportunities for collaborations in entrepreneurship development, trade and technology transfers and joint ventures between Indian and Saudi enterprises.

The four-member delegation, led by Al-Hamdan Management Consultations chairman Yousef A Al-Hamdan, visited city-based SMEs "" Hyderabad Batteries Ltd, Naturite Agro Industries, Apparel Export Park, SKM Tools, Srini Pharma, Vimta Labs, Kakathi Karshak Industries and Snow World "" during the past three days for exposure and collaboration. Al-Hamdan said that they are looking into establishment of a biotech and a fertiliser project.

Rao told newspersons that APITCO intended to conduct entrepreneurship development programmes for prospective entrepreneurs in Saudi Arabia in setting up SMEs in association with Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other professional agencies.

The programmes were specially designed to develop insight and skills for promoting SMEs, he added.
