Apollo Hospitals today opened a telemedicine centre at the Government General Hospital, Eluru. This is the second such centre at a government hospital in the state.
The project is part of the state government's efforts to extend quality medical services to people through public-private participation. The first telemedicine project of Apollo at a government hospital was launched in Karimnagar in August last year.
The minister for major industries, K Vidhyadhar Rao, inaugurated the telemedicine centre in Eluru from Apollo Hospitals at Jubilee Hills in the city.

Addressing a meeting on the occasion, he called for improvement in the communication for transfer of images with higher resolution to aid the doctors in precise diagnosis and felt the need for exploring usage of the satellite communications which could drastically improve the image resolution.
The commissioner of Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhan Parishad, Anji Reddy, who witnessed the launch from Eluru, said the telemedicine centre in Karimnagar was very beneficial to people who could not afford high quality care. He said the government was keen on taking telemedicine beyond district headquarter hospitals to rural areas.
Sangita Reddy, the executive director of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, said patients at Eluru hospital would get free access to specialists and super specialists at Apollo hospitals here. Diagnostic facilities like CT scan, colour doppler would be offered at highly subsidised prices for poor people.
