The Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (APTransco) has widely deployed very high frequency (VHF) wireless communication network throughout the state power grid and has provided wireless sets to the field staff for constantly monitoring the power at transmission and distribution levels.
Disclosing this at a video conference with the CMDs and senior officials of the distribution companies (DIscoms), Rachel Chatterjee, the chairman and managing director (CMD) of APTransco, hoped that the effective use of wireless communication system would result in minimising the breakdowns.
The CMD said that nine central breakdown (CBD) stations in Hyderabad were provided with three vehicles each for attending to power restoration works in the city in case of breakdowns. Each vehicle is provided with one mobile wireless set and two walkie-talkie sets, besides a cellular phone with closed user group (CUG) access for attending the restoration works.

All these would be in constant touch with the electricity consumer complaint cell (ECCC) at Erragadda, which is provided with telephone number 1912 for the consumers to lodge their complaints and also to know the status of restoration of power supply.
Such networks are also developed in all major towns in the state for speedy attention to consumers' grievances, Chatterjee said.
Transco also made special arrangements at the headquarters for continuously monitoring the power position in the entire state grid, and it is yielding dividends in maintaing the system frequency and voltage, she added.
