The Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (APTransco), the state power transmission utility, today said that it was fully geared up to meet the energy requirement in the state, particularly to agriculture, even if the hydel power generation at Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar could not be tapped fully due to scanty inflows into the two reservoirs.
Discussing the power supply position in the state with the top officials of the distribution companies through teleconference today, Rachel Chatterjee, chairman and managing director (CMD) of APTransco, said hydel power generation in the state was hovering around 7 million units per day during the current month, as compared to 23-24 million units per day in the same month of last year.
Similarly, the peak hydro power support has been reduced by 50 per cent to 900 MW at present from that of 1,800 MW during August 2002. To compensate the fall in hydel power generation, the planned overhaul of some of the units of APGenco, the state power generating utility, and NTPC Simhadri has been postponed, Chatterjee said.

However, Chatterjee is hopeful on attaining full reservoir levels (FRL) at the two hydel power generating stations with the expected inflows till the end of September. About 30,00 cusecs of inflows are expected into Srisailam reservoir from today onwards, she said. APTransco expects the daily energy requirement to be in the order of 149 million units in September and 137 million units in October.
The Transco CMD said that sub-station level meetings were being held through out the state to find out the field constraints from the farmers. She mentioned that with the massive investments made in the transmission and distribution (T&D) system over the last few years, the quality and reliability had improved substantially.
