Unhappy over denial of LS tickets to his children.
Airing his anguish over denial of Lok Sabha tickets to his children, senior Congress leader Arjun Singh today hit out at the party saying he was “shocked” to see the treatment meted out to him for “loyalty”.
The Congress was quick to dismiss his charge, saying working for the party itself was a “reward” for loyalty.
“Honour and humiliation have ceased to be concepts which the Congress party these days deals with,” the veteran leader told NDTV when asked whether he was being humiliated by the party.
Singh, the Union HRD Minister, has been upset over denial of Lok Sabha tickets to daughter Veena and son Ajeya from Sidhi and Satna, respectively. Veena is now contesting independently from Sidhi.
Asked whether he felt slighted by the decision of the party (not to give tickets to his son and daughter), the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister said, “I am not slighted. Slighted is a word that somehow does not appeal to me.”

Queried whether he was upset, Singh replied, “I am shocked by what is in store for loyalty.”
Reacting to Singh’s charge, Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said, “The philosophy of the party has its own rewards. I believe (that) working for the party and believing in its philosophy and principles has its own rewards.”
Working for the party “is a reward in itself”, she told reporters.
