Representatives of agricultural co-operatives from several Asian countries met here today to evolve a common strategy to face global competition in the changing economic scenario.
The two-day meet will explore areas where mutual co-operation among the bodies of these countries may be enhanced. It has been sponsored jointly by the Network for Development of Agricultural Co-operatives in Asia and the Pacific (NEDAC), the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the National Co-operative Development Corporation (NCDC) of India.
Co-operative sector leaders from Bangladesh, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and India are participating in the meet.
Agriculture Secretary R C A Jain told the participants that co-operatives could play a significant role in adding value to farm produce.
