Atmiya Institute of Technology and Science (Atmiya college) managed by Sarvoday Kelavani Samaj, Rajkot, has applied to the University Grant Commission (UGC) to get a deemed university status under the name of Atmiya University. Atmiya college is waiting for UGC's nod to get an autonomous status.
“With an aim of providing better education in Saurashtra followed by development, we decided to go for the deemed university status. The trust has applied for an approval from UGC and other state and center related departments for the no objection certificate (NOC)”, said Nalin Zaveri of Sarvoday Kelavani Samaj. Zaveri has been working with the trust since the last 20 years.
Sarvoday Kelavani Samaj has more than 7000 students and about 500 staff members in its various educations institutes like Atmiya college, Virani college and Yogiji Maharaj college. Atmiya College is well known for engineering, computer science and bio-technology education. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) had given an 'A' grade to the college last year, which helps the students get jobs upto Rs.12 lakhs per year through campus placements.
“At present, we abide by the rules of Saurashtra University. In such competitive times, we need to develop courses with better and higher level of education. Autonomy will play a significant role in helping us provide quality education and even the government supports such steps. Hopefully, we will get permission as soon as possible.”
Rajkot is an engineering hub and the city is always in need of skilled education. Atmiya college has constantly tried to match the need to ensure that talent is absorbed in the city and local companies get the best employees.
