The Tamil Nadu government will consider bringing back the audit provision in VAT by chartered accountants, state commercial tax minister SNM Ubayadullah said.
Inaugurating a training programme organised by the Southern India Regional Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, he said, “I will speak with my official to ensure that steps are taken to implement it."
Initially, 600 officers in and around Chennai from the commercial tax department would be trained. The programme would extend to other parts of the state in a phased manner.
