Backward tribal districts in MP show better census results

The sex ratio has gone down to an alarming rate in Gwalior, Bhind, Morena, Datia and Rewa, according to the provisional results of the census announced here today. The sex ratio has gone up in backward tribal dominated district like Balaghat to 1,021 compared to 930 for the whole of state. The district of Anuppur had the lowest population growth rate of 12.3 per cent, while Indore district had the highest, at 32.7 per cent, during 2001-2011.

Indore has the highest population of 3,272,335. The sex ratio has gone down from 932 (2001) to 912 (2011) but the literacy rate has improved to reach 70.6 per cent.

The total population of Madhya Pradesh has reached 72,597,565. However, growth rates have witnessed a 4 per cent decline vis-à-vis growth rate of 24 per cent during 2001 census.The population density of the state is at 236 people per sq km. Bhopal, Indore and Jabalpur have highest population density of 854, 839 and 472 respectively. Dindori has the lowest population density of 94.

Literacy figures for the state stand at 70.6 per cent with male literacy at 80.5 per cent and female literacy at 60 per cent. “Census results are encouraging in some fields like literacy rates and decline in growth rate but child sex ratio is alarmingly low in Chambal division and Rewa district,” said Sachin Sinha, director census, Madhya Pradesh.

Indore division has the highest population figure of 12,534,283, the highest growth rate of 26.3 per cent and lowest literacy figures of 64.4 per cent.
