More than 80 villagers have come out with the startling allegation that the district administration has paid the compensation for their land to other people who in fact did not possess any land.
The farmers alleged that the Bastar district administration has paid Rs 7.16 crore as "fake compensation".
The villagers under the banner of All India Adivasi Mahasabha met the Chhattisgarh Governor E S L Narasimhan and apprised him about the alleged forged committed by the administration that handed over cheques to fake persons for the lands, which were in their possession.
"We have demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter," President of the Mahasabha Manish Kunjam, who led the delegation, said.
The 82 people had earlier refused to hand over their land to the administration for the proposed Tata Steel plant.
