Be wary of BJP 'scurrilous' tactics: Sonia to partymen

Congress President Sonia Gandhi has asked her partymen to be ready to face "scurrilous" campaigns by the BJP against the Congress leaders in the forthcoming elections in the light of the recent experience of presidential poll.

Gandhi's warning, which is also her first comment against the BJP's campaign against president-elect Pratibha Patil, has been published in the recent edition of the Congress mouthpiece, "Sandesh."

In her column, "Letter to Congress workers," Gandhi said, "We must remember that attacking individuals from the Congress party has always been their hallmark...over the next year, elections will be held in several states, and we must prepare well to counter the canards the opposition."

To "expose opposition's lies and tactics," Gandhi asked the Congress workers to focus on "inclusive development and empowering of weaker sections" during the campaigns.
