BEL faces drop in orders: House panel

Public sector undertaking Bharat Electronics (BEL), which was recently categorised as a defence 'Navratna' company, is faced with a huge reduction in its order books.

"The company is faced with a huge order drop from armed forces, its prime market," said the report of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence tabled in Parliament today.

The report, based on an in-depth and critical analysis of the BEL, has suggested that this premier PSU should immediately look at the diversified market in civil aviation, shipping and railways.

The report has asked the company to venture into production of specialised detectors that could help private and police and para-military organisations to check drug trafficking.
