Bengal Chamber plans services focus

BCCI is also planning to constitute a task force which will act as a bridge between the prospective investors in IT, tourism, and retailing and government agencies.

As part of the "Bengal Forward" initiative launched earlier this year by BCCI, it has initiated the process of spreading the message that the single most important driver for growth in new-age Bengal will be the services sector.

This included information technology to harness the state's multi-disciplinary human resources, travel and tourism for showcasing the opportunities of revealing nature's bounty in the east, and retail, which finds good acceptance as a new vehicle for modernisation.

The module on IT in the seminar will highlight the use of IT as a strategic tool in commercial organisations for providing competitive advantages in an open economy. This will lead to generation of enhanced IT applications and employment opportunities.

Speakers will point out new opportunities arising out of ITES and BPO industry and managing the challenge of high calibre technology, domain skilled resources development needs. The IT seminar is will be co-hosted by the Kolkata chapter of the Silicon Valley based group, The IndusEnterpreneurs (TiE).

Speakers at the seminar include Bhaskar Pramanik, managing director of Sun Microsytems, Roopen Roy, managing director of PWC, and Ashis Kumar, country head of IBM Global Services.
