The West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) is the first state run power agency to successfully complete the installation of 'Go Alive' system in its day to day function. Of the 107 cities and towns all over the country, in West Bengal alone 23 towns have been brought under this system. With this system now in work, the power distribution companies would be able to better monitor and control their entire electricity distribution network.

On sunday, the Planning Commission member (power) P K Chaturvedi and Power Finance Corporation CMD Satnam Singh came to Kolkata and visited the WBSEDCL's Data Centre and saw for themselves how this system function. According to sources close to the state power department, they went back satisfied with the performance of the system. One senior officer of the power department, who did not want to be identified, explained, the 'Go Alive' system will allow the power distribution company to have an energy audit in real terms. It took three years and around Rs 200 crore to complete this work. With this system in place, the company would be able to give faster service to its consumers.

Now, with this system in place, better management of idle investment, theft monitoring, identifying of power leakage at a moment's notice and avoidance of infructuous expenditure would be made possible. Consequently, the company will be able to save on energy and revenue.
