The state is poised to have an Industrial Spares Park, spread over an area of 75 acres at the Kona Express Highway by 2010. |
"We have presented a proposal to the government of West Bengal for allocating around 75 acres of land at Kona Express Highway and are hopeful of the park being set up by 2010", Pradeep Murarka, president of Eastern India Ball Bearing Merchants Association(EIBBMA) said. |

The proposed park would have manufacturers and distributors of bearings, hardware, tools, instruments etc and would help to develop an efficient and cost effective distribution network. |

The overall turnover of the ball bearing industry in the country is set to touch Rs 50 billion by 2012, up from Rs 25 billion in 2006-07, Murarka told reporters on the sidelines of EIBBMA's 39th annual general meeting. |

Murarka opined that imports, which currently meet 30 per cent of the total demand of the industry would grow in the years to come. |

He also stressed ón the need for the ball bearing industry to enhance its production capacity and expand the dealership network. |

Speaking on the occasion, Rabi Lal Maitra, the state minister for law and judicial affairs, said, "The ball bearing industry in the state is set for a robust growth in the backdrop of the growth in heavy industries like iron and steel, chemicals, ship building and automobile. The state enjoys the confidence of the investors as it attracted investment proposals of Rs 95,883 crore in 2006-07, much greater than the total investment of Rs 32,620 crore, which the state got during 1991-2006." |

West Bengal's FDI inflow in 2006-07 was also 26 times higher than that in 2003-04, Maitra added. The state has been able to finetune an ideal balance between the sunshine and the traditional sectors and the minister attributed this to the industrial policies pursued by the state. |

According to the minister, the states focus is on industries like iron and steel, chemicals, automobiles, food processing, IT, textiles and leather to name a few. |
