An NGO working for the Bhopal gas tragedy survivors today appealed to the Centre and the state government to file a curative petition in the Supreme Court to ensure justice to the victims of the 1984 industrial disaster.
"We want that the Centre and state government should immediately explore ways and file a curative petition in the Supreme Court and ensure that the convicts of Bhopal Gas Tragedy are re-tried speedily under section 304 II and punished with a long sentence," Bhopal Gas Peedith Mahila Udyog Sangathan convenor Abdul Jabbar told reporters here.
He said Law Minister M Veerappa Moily's statement dubbing the verdict in the Bhopal Tragedy Case as "justice buried" will not do any good for the victims of the tragedy.
Also his statement blaming then Chief Justice of India A M Ahmadi for diluting the charges to section 304 (A) (causing death due to negligence from section 304 II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) will not help the survivors of the tragedy, Jabbar said.
He even asked the BJP government in the state to refrain from politicking over the issue.
