West Bengal Minister for Micro and Small Industries Manas Bhuniya on Wednesday asked banks to step up lending to the textiles sector in the state.
"It is appalling that banks are not helping the textile sector in West Bengal much. We need more help from the banks," Bhuniya told a seminar on textiles organised by Assocham here.Land and finance were the two crucial issues that the textiles sector was facing in the state and the Trinamool Congress-Congress government have been proactive in rejuvenating it, he asserted.The Centre, he said, has sanctioned the establishment of the All India Institute of Textile Technology at Nadia district in the state.
In addition, a mega industrial park involving an investment of Rs 100 crore will be set up at Murshidabad with central aid.Furthermore, urban and rural haats (markets) will be set up to develop market linkages, he added.
