To invest in downstream projects of the non-viable Bina refinery, the MP government will initiate a dialogue with small and medium-scale industries at the "Bundelkhand Investors Meet", which has been postponed till April 11. The meet was slated to be organised in Sagar on April 8.

An official announcement is awaited but a well-placed government source told Business Standard the meet had been postponed because a by-election was taking place in Betul on April 12.

"The state government is expecting investment in downstream or other projects in the vicinity of the Bina refinery and will talk to small-scale and medium-scale units at the Bundelkhand meet," the source told Business Standard.

The state government has invited 450 investors to the meet, which has been rescheduled at Dr Harisingh Gaur University's meeting hall.

"Small and medium investors from five districts of the Sagar division "" Sagar, Panna, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur and Satna "" and from Datia have been invited in the meet. Big players like ACC Rio Tinto, Diamond Cements, SPJ Steel and those interested in agro-based industries, sand mines, dolomite, granite and other mines are also expected," the insider said.

Sagar has only one big unit -- the makers of the Ghari brand detergent and soaps while the construction of the non-viable Bina refinery project is under way. ACC Rio Tinto, a leading diamond company, has reportedly revealed in its survey that Chhatarpur district has the world's biggest diamond reserves while dolomite and iron ore are likely to be explored by other companies in these backward districts, which have been placed in Backward category C districts.

The company has already got the prospecting licence. "As a result these districts will be given priority in terms of sops and concessions," the source said.

Although the meet is aimed at attracting investors from small and medium enterprises, a few more companies will explore possibilities in jatropha and bio-diesel since a vast land area is lying uncultivated in the region. Damoh district may attract mining companies.
