Twenty-five electrical items listed for import will have to comply with the Bureau of Industrial Standards (BIS) norms. The items include household appliances like immersion rods, electric irons, electric stoves, switches and electrical fuses.
"We have decided that the import of all items for which the BIS has prescribed standards will have to comply with the norms," a commerce ministry official said.
The decision was taken after the BIS introduced standards for the 25 electrical items, he said. The directorate general of foreign trade (DGFT) issued a notification to this effect last week.
