The Bharatiya Janata Party was on the backfoot just a day before its national executive was to meet here, after it was reported that
Swami Aseemananad, senior functionary of its elder body, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), had allegedly confessed his involvement in the 2007 Samjhauta Express blast case.
Unleashing a scathing attack on the Union government and particularly the Congress Party, senior leaders said selective leaks were being done to distract attention from the rampant corruption charges against the UPA government.
“The selective leaks by the CBI to implicate leaders of the RSS are highly condemnable,” said Ravi Shankar Prasad, general secretary. He said selective leaks were being made against the RSS and the Vishva Hindu Parishad. He said the leaks were being made to divert attention from the rampant corruption and scams in the UPA government.
“The record of the Congress and the UPA in the abuse of the CBI and other investigating agencies for its own selfish ends is too well known,” he said.
He added that his party would welcome action against anyone if found guilty of or involved in terrorist attacks in the country.

“We never say Muslim terrorism, but call it Jehadi terrorism. We don’t like the expression Hindu terrorism or saffron terror, as terrorism cannot have any religion,” he added.
The party’s leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley, attacked telecom minister Kapil Sibal for declaring there was no revenue loss to the government in the 2G spectrum allocation.
“If there was no loss, why did former telecom minister A Raja resign? Kapil Sibal is only playing with statistics and he is trying to confuse the people,” said Jaitley. “He has missed the basic point that when spectrum was allotted in 2008, it done at 2001 prices.”
