The low percentage of turnout in yesterday's polling for 13 out of 29 constituencies in Madhya Pradesh has caused unrest both in the ruling BJP and opposition Congress camps.

The BJP which had won 24 of the 29 seats in 2004, has been claiming that its tally would go up this time but the low polling percentage has caused concern among party leaders.

Madhya Pradesh BJP spokesman, Uma Shankar Gupta told PTI that following yesterday's experience, the party would concentrate to bring as many voters to the polling booths during the second and final phase in the State on April 30.

Gupta said that the intense heat was one of the biggest factors behind the low polling percentage and added that the party was not disheartened by it.

He claimed that voters have preferred BJP as the Congress was nowhere on the ground and appeared to have disintegrated.

On the other hand, State Congress Chief Spokesman, Manak Agrawal said that people had not come out to vote as they were disappointed with the functioning of the BJP government in the State.

Agrawal claimed that during the polling, Congress workers were very alert and had succeeded in taking their voters to the polling booths.
