The BJP today demanded the Centre order an inquiry into alleged corruption in preparations for the Commonwealth Games (CWG).

"Even Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyer has spoken about corruption in preparations for the Commonwealth Games," former BJP president Rajnath Singh told reporters here.

He charged that of the Rs 70,000 crore allocated by the Centre for waiver of loans to farmers, Rs 40,000 crore was allotted for holding the CWG. "It is a loot".

"I recall that China sent a message to the world when it hosted the Olympics that it was emerging as a global power. What message is the Congress government wishing to send across if one goes by the corruption?" he asked.

Stating that the Games should go on, he said "but the game of fraud and corruption must stop."

Singh also slammed the Congress for allegedly not preserving documents relating to the Emergency period and called for making them public.

"It is highly unfortunate to know from the Union Home Ministry it does not have any document on Emergency," he said.

"A lot of atrocities had been perpetrated during the period, described as a black chapter scripted by the Congress," he said, adding if they were stolen it should be probed.
