Thirteen candidates were elected unopposed to the Uttar pradesh state legislative council yesterday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bagged six of the seats, the Samajwadi Party three, Bahujan Samaj Party two and Congress and the CPM one each. As the candidature of the 14th person was rejected yesterday during scrutiny for the biennial elections, Uttar Pradesh Communist Party of India (Marxist) secretaryRram Sumer Yadav and state minorities commission chairman ahmed hassan were among the candidates elected unopposed.
Prem Chandra Saxena, the Assembly secretary and returning officer for the elections from the lower house constituency said that the nomination paper of Kaka Joginder Singh Dharti pakar was rejected during scrutiny as he had no proposer.
For Kaka Joginder Singh, a resident of Bareilly, contesting elections is a hobby with the aim of achieving a world record of defeats. The returning officer, however, said though there was no doubt about the election of the 13 candidates, as per rule he would officially announce the result only after the expiry of the time of withdrawal, which was 1500 hrs on January 30.
