Former Solicitor General Soli Sorabjee is expected to fight the case for the BJP and would be assisted by Arun Jaitley and senior advocate from Ahmedabad Bhaskar P Tanna. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Suresh Mehta, assisted by Tanna, had an hour-long meeting with party president L K Advani,General Secretary Venkaiah Naidu and Jaitley at the party office here to discuss details of the case. The petition would seek revival of the Gujarat Assembly and restoration of the Suresh Mehta government on the ground that it had already won the vote of confidence before being dismissed.
Commenting on the misuse of Article 356 to dismiss a state government ruled by a party different than that ruling at the Centre, Party President L K Advani said that Gujarat was the only case where a government had been dismissed after it won the vote of confidence.
