The BJP, anxious for early elections in Karnataka, is considering moving the Supreme Court.

According to top sources in the party, a report of the Election Commission that the paperwork for the delimitation exercise can be wound up by the first week of April has come as a shot in the arm for the party.

"When the delimitation of seats was announced in February, we thought that the government would be able to push back elections in Karnataka till November 2008 which the Congress wants to do badly," said a senior leader involved with the party's affairs in Karnataka.

"We had approached the election commission with a memorandum about the constitutional options and the need for early elections in the state," he said.

The commission, in its report, said the work on the delimitation of seats could be completed by the first week of April. The BJP is hoping that elections are called before the term of the President's rule ends in May 2008.
