The opposition Congress in Karnataka today accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of misusing public funds and official machinery for its conference being held here on June 25 to mark completion of two years in power.
“The ‘sadhaneya samavesha’ will virtually be a BJP affair to further its prospects in the coming zilla and taluk panchayat elections, likely to be held this year end,” KPCC President R V Deshpande charged at a press meet here.
He alleged the two years of the BJP government achievements are marked by rampant corruption and misuse of Central government funds. The only “achievement” of the BJP government was pushing the state backward on all fronts, he alleged.
The gross state domestic product (GSDP) of Karnataka, which was about 15 per cent during Congress rule has plummeted to five to six per cent under BJP rule and the state was under a debt trap, Deshpande charged. “The BJP should organise its conference of “failures” instead of achievements,” he said.
Deshpande, who himself once faced allegations of misuse of flood relief funds, rejected the chargesand described it as “only misapplication of funds.” He alleged that relief funds collected for tsunami victims and flood affected people have been kept in the state treasury for long and not spent on relief works.
