If the CPM's conscience was so overburdened with the guilt of Rao it should not have any connection with either Rao or his party. He also said the CPM had no moral right to talk about corruption of Rao when it preferred to keep silent about allegations of corruption against Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal president Laloo Prasad Yadav and allegations of criminal charges against defence minister and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The BJP also accused the CPM of being a mute spectator to the policy of economic liberalisation followed by finance minister P Chidambaram. The government supported by the CPM has been excelling in taking forward the liberalisation policy of the Congress. What former finance minister Manmohan Singh could not do in five years, Chidambaram had done in less than five months, the BJP held.
Meanwhile, the party reiterated its demand for the recall of Gujarat Governor Krishnapal Singh and appointment of a new Governor in his place for fairness in public life.
General secretary M Venkaiah Naidu alleged that even after dismissal of the Suresh Mehta government last week the bias of Singh had continued unabated. He further alleged that telephones and other facilities available to Suresh Mehta when he was Chief Minister had been taken away but the facilities given to Amar Sinh Choudhury by virtue of his being leader of opposition in the Assembly were not withdrawn.
