To counter the star power of former Indian skipper and Congress candidate from here, Mohammed Azharuddin, the BJP is planning to rope in former cricketer and MP Navjot Singh Sidhu to campaign for it in the brass city.
"We are going to get Navjot Singh Sidhu to campaign for us in the constituency," BJP's candidate form Moradabad Sarvesh Singh told PTI here.
The date for his campaigning has not yet been decided as the city will go the polls in the last phase of the elections on May 13.
"Right now he is busy in campaigning for seats going to poll in the first three phases. We are hoping to finalise the dates for his arrival after the notification of our phase of elections is issued," he said.
Singh said the BJP would definitely benefit from the image of Sidhu as he is "popular" both as a cricketer and the 'King of Laughter'. He said the request of the local unit has been accepted by the party high-command and the Amritsar MP will be holding public meetings at various places in the constituency.
Azhar, on his part, has already announced that he will get several of his former colleagues on the cricket field such as Kapil Dev to canvass for him in the district.
