The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today claimed that the confusion in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government to deal with the global financial contagion had plunged India into deep recession.
“The UPA government was totally confused to deal with the situation that had plunged the country into deep economic crises and recession,” BJP President Rajnath Singh told reporters here today afternoon.
The Union Government also failed to keep country’s financial environment in the insulation so as to prevent the global impact on India’s economy, Singh said, adding that following the pattern of other countries to deal with the situation would be disastrous.
“The Bombay Stock Exchange’s benchmark Sensex is continuously falling under the heat of global meltdown while the index of industrial production has also come down,” Singh said. Following recession in all the sectors, the fear of unemployment looms large over the country, he added.
The BJP had demanded that the Union Government should immediately announce a long-term plan to bail out the country from the present economic “crisis”. Lashing out at the Manmohan Singh government for allegedly failing to tackle terrorism, the BJP President said that most of the countries were avoiding its resident to visit India. “The inflow of foreign tourists had come down by 10 per cent following series of terrorist attacks in the country,” Singh added.
