Senior BJP leader and party nominee from Vidisha Lok Sabha seat, Sushma Swaraj has said that the party would not involve Varun Gandhi in election campaign in the state as there was no demand for him from any seat.
Swaraj, who is also the Lok Sabha poll in-charge of the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand totalling 54 seats, told reporters last night after a party meeting that so far there is no demand for Varun from any of the seats in Madhya Pradesh.
However, party sources said that earlier in the meeting of senior party leader, Swaraj said that the party would not involve Varun in poll campaign here as it may lead to polarisation of voters in number of seats in the state including Bhopal and Vidisha.
The senior party leader said that since the BJP is in power in the state, it should not do or say any thing that may invite trouble, the sources said.
The polarisation will not help the party as it is not necessary that all the Hindus will vote for the BJP in such a scenario, they said.
Instead, the party should focus on highlighting the step-motherly treatment being meted out by the Centre to the state causing hardship to the people, the sources said.
Besides, it should also highlight the national level issues confronting the nation to win the confidence of voters so that the party can improve its performance from the last Lok Sabha polls in which it had won 25 seats, they added.
