Sachin Rao, a journalist working for Business Standard Motoring, was today presented the fourth Business Standard-Seema Nazareth Award for Excellence in Print Journalism, 2002. Rao received the award from Najma Heptullah, the Deputy Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha.

The award, instituted jointly by Business Standard and the Nazareth family in the memory of Seema Nazareth, a Business Standard journalist who died a few years back, is given every year to a promising journalist below 25 years of age.

It comprises a citation and a reward of Rs 25,000. Rao is the fourth recipient of the award.

The jury for the award noted that Rao has created a lively interest in readers by bringing to life an account of travelling across India on a motorcycle.

"He celebrates, through his writing, a vibrant India waiting to be explored. This award recognises the potential of a travel and motoring writer of distinction," the citation reads. Rao, who has spent about 10 days of each month on the road during the last one year, said Ladakh simply "took his breath away".

While presenting the award to Rao, Heptullah said it should encourage young journalists in the print media to strive for professional excellence.
