Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati would step down on September 21, after the expiry of her six-month long tenure, following the Bahujan Samaj Partys agreement with its partner in the state, the BJP.
BSP national president Kanshi Ram told PTI yesterday that his party would strictly adhere to the terms of agreement with its partner, the BJP, in letter and spirit to complete the full tenure in office.
Describing Mayawatis six months tenure as very successful, Kanshi Ram, who is on a countrywide campaign tour, said that the downtrodden, constituting 78 per cent of the state population, were given an identity during the period. Kanshi Ram hoped that the Mayawati governments achievements would be reflected in the next assembly polls. The BSP chief hoped that Mayawatis successor would also follow the reforms initiated by her in the greater interest of the people in the state.
Kanshi Ram said that his party had not joined the United Front government at the Centre because it wanted to distance itself from the Leftists, particularly the communists, whom he described as the worst enemies of the downtrodden.
