Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan welcomed the Union Budget 2011-12 saying that it had succeeded in striking a balance between fuelling growth in rural and urban India.
Chavan said the highlights were concessions to tax payers and increasing of budgetary provisions for agriculture, health and education sectors.
He said the Direct Tax Code to be implemented from next year will give a new direction to the country's economy.
Sanctioning of budgetary provisions for Mumbai Metro phase three was also a welcome sign, Chavan added.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said the Budget will pave the way for growth in all sectors and welcomed steps taken to boost the agriculture sector.
