The Rs 30 crore electric bulb industry in Dehra Dun is under threat. Around 60 units have shut shop already, and 10 are on the verge of closing. Only 40 small-scale units in the organised sector, and 250 in the unorganised sector are still operational.
Manufacturers are looking for options, with several of them opening schools where their units once stood.
With the Centre ruling out fresh concessions to revive the industry, and cheap Chinese products flooding the market, the units in Dehra Dun are having a hard time.
