Governor M K Narayanan's address in the state assembly on Thursday did not mention the ‘burning issues’ which the state was facing, Leader of the Opposition Surya Kant Mishra said.
“This is perhaps the longest speech ever made by any governor in West Bengal. But surprisingly, issues like atrocities on women, farmer deaths, attacks on democratic institutions and political clashes did not find place in the speech,” Mishra told reporters after customary address of the governor ahead of the budget session.
“What is said in the speech is not the truth or half truths,” he said.
“We will bring amendments to the governor’s address and actively participate in the debate in the house,” he said.
Mishra said that the state government had compelled the governor to read out a 36-page speech while the finance minister’s speech in the last budget session was only seven-pages.
“We are eagerly waiting to see how long the finance minister's budget speech will be March 23,” he said.
Mishra was also critical that the assembly press corner was closed for which he had to hold a press conference outside.
