The government today said that all employees of Prasar Bharati working in All India Radio and Doordarshan and recruited on or before October 5, 2007 shall be considered as central government employees on deemed deputation.

Therefore, such employees will be able to enjoy all facilities availed by the central government employees.

This move is significance because Prasar Bharati is an autonomous body  that came into effect after enforcement of the Prasar Bharati Act, 1990.

Therefore, all government employees working for this autonomous body were not treated as government servants due to confusion on their  'employement status'. This in turn led to agitations by all such Prasar
Bharati employees.

A Group of Ministers (GoM) then looked into the matter and based on its  recommendations, the Cabinet gave its approval on the status and benefits of Prasar Bharati employee on Wednesday night.

This move is likely to help about 30,000 employees working in AIR and  Doordarshan an access to government accomodation, central government health services, and admission of their wards to Kendriya Vidyalayas among other entitled benefits.

All such employees (about 3,000) will be subjected to the employment rules as approved by the Prasar Bharati Board, it said.
