At a session organised on partnerships for skill development, at the industrial estate of Haridwar as part of the second Industrial Expo, experts on Monday called for strengthening the education system in technical and business schools in Uttarakhand which, they said, should be made relevant to the requirement of industry.
The event’s special focus was on the micro, small and medium enterprises and buyer-seller meets. The session dwelled upon how the state government, industry and institutions can collaborate to strengthen the industry-institute interface, making skill formation in the state relevant to the requirements of the industry.
“Industry can assist the institutes, specially the technical institutes to enhance the employability of the candidates,” said Kirshna Kumar, executive director, Dehradun Institute of Technology (DIT). Kumar urged the industry to play a proactive role in the training of the graduates. On the other hand, institutes could provide technical assistance and consultancy related to the development of products and projects, he added.
Sanjay Jasola, vice-chancellor of the Graphic Era University, said the partnership between the industry and institutes involves various stages starting from curriculum designing to drafting and delivery of the content to taking the views of the industry about the requirement of the manpower for various trades. On participating in the Industrial Expo 2013, he said this was an ideal and appropriate platform, wherein the interaction with the other stakeholders was very positive.
Ajay Goyal Chairman of Quantum Global Campus, Roorkee, said the industry-institute interface was extremely important and is a win – win situation for both sides. The students get exposure, thus enabling them to adapt to the industry’s working environment. Similarly, the industry also gets an idea of manpower availability, he added.
Similar views were expressed by O P Bhatt, chairman, Doon Institute of Engineering & Technology. He said the platform such as this can go a long way in strengthening the bond. In this regard, CII is doing an excellent work, he added.
