Production of finished carbon steel between April-September 2007 was estimated at 24.80 million tonne - an increase of 6.6% from 23.256 million tonne in the first half of the last fiscal. Production of pig iron recorded a rise of 7.9% at 2.582 million tonne. According to a release issued by the steel ministry today, Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) produced 6.24 tonne between April-September 2007 when compared with 6.01 million tonne during the same period last year while Rashtriya Ispat Nigam (RINL) produced 1.203 million tonne as against 1.307 million tonne between April-September 2006.While imports of finished carbon steel increased 28.2% to 2.45 million tonne, exports increased 7.4% to 2.60 million tonne.
