The CBI will soon decide on filing a chargesheet in the disproportionate assets case against former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati. The agency claims to have plugged some loopholes in the probe carried out so far.

"We will take a final decision soon," CBI Director Vijay Shanker said.

Mayawati was questioned for nearly 13 hours by the CBI last month during which she was understood to have given a written statement, according to CBI sources.

"There have been some lacunae in the case. These have been dealt with. We will take a decision very soon," Shanker said.

On the Supreme Court's criticism of the agency in the Taj corridor case, he said he had not seen the order. "I have not seen the order but if the apex court has made such comments, I will ensure that there is no such charade," he said while responding to the court's comment that the agency had staged a charade in the name of investigaation.

The Supreme Court today took a strong exception to the fact that despite the entire probe team recommending Mayawati's prosecution, CBI Director (US Misra in this case) preferred to refer the matter to Attorney General Milon K Banerji for his opinion.
