Contrary to common belief, the present construction boom may not be real, say cement manufacturers, adding that an adequate growth in demand is still out of bounds.
In the first seven months of 2003-04, cement output has risen by 4.5 per cent. However, according to the Cement Manufacturers Association (CMA), on an average GDP growth of 6 per cent, the growth in despatches should have been at least 7 to 8 per cent year-on-year.
