The health care system in Orissa has come in for praise by a central team which reviewed the progress made in various programmatic interventions under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in the state.
Observing that NRHM had made a positive difference to the health care system both in terms of delivery and management, members of the Common Review Mission (CRM) have said OPD and bed occupancies had gone up in health institutions at various levels, according to official sources here.
The team, which visited the state recently, noticed that there had also been improvement in terms of equipment, drugs and manpower availability.
The team visited Dhenakanal and Sonepur districts and said funds utilised in Rogi Kalyan Samitis were also satisfactory.
The team members suggested that the state government should take firm steps to strengthen and mainstream the activity.
Emphasising on improvement of data management and taking it down to primary health centres and sub-centre level for better analysis to facilitate evidence based planning, the team also sought increase in the number of staff nurses.
The team further suggested initiating processes to expedite the expenditure of civil construction activities for improving the infrastructure at various levels of health service delivery.
