A high level team from the Centre arrived in Assam on Tuesday and are presently visiting flood affected areas in the state to assess the damage caused by floods.

The team, consisting of seven members, visited the flood affected areas in lower Assam, Barak Valley and Upper Assam in three groups and are assessing the damage caused by floods.

After making an aerial survey of the flood affected areas in the state on July 2, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had pledged Centre’s help in rebuilding the infrastructure damaged by floods. He had said that the “exact amount of financial support to be provided to the state government” would be finalised after the Central team assesses the damage caused by floods and submits its report. He had then announced an ad-hoc package of Rs 500 crore for Assam.
